Local “Team Up” Volunteers Revitalize Outdoor Space for Missouri City Homeless Center

Team Up volunteers work together to make a difference

Comcast’s Team UP volunteers joined forces to help spruce up the outdoor spaces at Fort Bend Family Promise- an organization that provides support and services to homeless families in the area. Armed with shovels and paint brushes, 50 volunteers weeded flower beds, assembled new furniture and painted a pergola to beautify the gardens. Take a look at how they helped make the outdoor spaces feel a little more like home.  👇

Working alongside her Comcast colleagues held special meaning for employee Carrie Parrie. She and her siblings lived in poverty as children. Now a mother herself, she is grateful she can give back to other families in need.

“My dad was a single father.  I have two siblings. He did the best that he could,” Parrie said. “We didn’t have a car. We fished for food every night for over a year. Many of my family members won’t even eat fish, still because of that.”

Working side by side to help provide comfort and calm to homeless neighbors in Fort Bend County made the experience more meaningful for Team Up volunteers as well.

“It’s being able to put a smile on the face of this property that we’ve been needing.” Vera Johnson, Executive Director of  Fort Bend Family Promise said.  “They also beautified the spirits of the families that come here”.
