Local “Team UP” Volunteers Help Build Future Home for Conroe Family

Comcast’s Team UP volunteers joined forces to help build a Habitat for Humanity home in Montgomery County, TX. Decked out in hard hats and safety goggles, the 24 volunteers cut wood, installed exterior siding, built door frames and more. Team UP is Comcast’s always-on volunteer program. Take a look at how they helped changed a first responder’s life. Backhand index pointing down

Working beside them were the recipients of the house, Jose, a First Responder, and his wife, Millie. Jose, Millie and other family members are cramped living in his parents’ small house. Jose is excited about having more space for his family and a secure home for his daughter.

“We know from a research standpoint what it means to a family to get a home,” Patricia Etris, Director of Strategic Partnership for Habitat for Humanity, Montgomery County said. “It allows them to plan for the future. We couldn’t do the work we do without the volunteers and sponsors who come out and work with us. And we’re so happy to add Comcast to the group.”

This is the first time Comcast has partnered with Habitat for Humanity in the Texas Region. The corporate sponsorship included not only the volunteer activity but also a donation of $5,000. Working side by side with Jose and Millie gave the volunteers the chance to get to know the people they were helping, which made the activity even more meaningful.

“We create volunteer experiences that are tangible and touch employees’ hearts,” Community Relations Sr. Specialist Laura Mayorga said.

The experience certainly touched the heart of Comcast volunteer Natalia Jimenez-D’Sahagun.

“Being able to help people fulfil their dream of owning a home is extremely, extremely fulfilling,” she said. “We’re thrilled to be here. We’re all helping each other out. It’s extremely important for Comcast, for the Team UP family, to give back to the community.”
