Houston Artist Takes Center Stage in National Hispanic Heritage Month Campaign

GONZO247 stands in front of his mural in Houston. Texas

Mario Figueroa, better known as GONZO247, is a Houston-based multidisciplinary artist who uses vibrant colors and classic graffiti writing styles to create eye-catching murals. GONZO247 was selected to be one of the faces of Comcast’s national Hispanic Heritage Month campaign.

GONZO247 talks about the pressures of being a second-generation American, his artistic influences and how his own community contributed to his new artwork, created in partnership with Comcast.

GONZO247’s new art commission called “Make your Wake” is on full display in Houston’s Midtown neighborhood. It is located on the northwest corner of McGowen and San Jacinto Streets. Bright colors now adorn the side of Career and Recovery Resources, transforming the southwest corner of the building into a work of art.

Inside the non-profit, they work everyday to transform lives by helping people identify and overcome their barriers. Take a look at Sylvia Guilliam’s story below.

National Hispanic Heritage Month is annually celebrated from September 15 to October 15 to recognize the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements.
