Comcast’s Veterans Group ‘Serves’ Porter VFW

Porter Surprise Squad

The employees that help make up Comcast’s Veterans Network here in Texas truly understand what it means to serve. Jeffrey David is an army veteran, while Jason Ovalle served in the Navy. The duo recently embarked on a mission to give back to the Porter community by surprising members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4816.

David and Ovalle stunned the large crowd by paying for everyone’s steak dinner and by bringing delicious desserts from a local veterans-owned business. Members of the VFW Post 4816, located on Cunningham Drive, come together bi-weekly to enjoy fellowship over a steak dinner. Attendees typically pay for their own meals, but not on this occasion.

“Totally surprised. The steaks are always good but a free steak you can’t beat,” said Jay Davis, one of the veterans.

“I would say in a world full of selfish people, these people are the opposite,” Ovalle said. “They are the selfless ones who signed their names on the dotted line, whether it be during war time of peace time to fight for us, for you and me. And this is the least we can do.”

As the group sat down to enjoy their meals, the Comcast crew rolled in another surprise, a Blackstone griddle.

“The new griddle that Comcast provided is absolutely amazing. We have several events that we run every month and we always need griddle space,” said Stacey Prisk, Post Commander for the VFW Post 4816.
