Passion, Pies, and Pudding Turn Houston Bakery into a Tasty Pit Stop
Adria and Adam Magoti’s passion for baking didn’t come easy. You might even say, the husband and wife reluctantly discovered a love for their sweet tooth. Funny thing, they now can’t imagine life differently. They spend most of their time creating delicious desserts in Houston’s Westchase neighborhood at their family-owned Sweet Timez Bakery. The tasty pitstop is this month’s feature in our Keep Rising series.
“Not one time in my life did I want to be a baker,” Adam Magoti laughed. “Just to spend 10 hours in the kitchen. I never thought about that.”
The couple said they started the business as a side hustle to help improve their family’s finances. They quickly discovered the bakery’s success depended on their willingness to pour their heart and their soul into the kitchen.
“We honestly thought this business would run independently of us. We’d come in. Check on things a couple of times a week. That was not our journey. No, we did not intend on being bakers,” Adria Magoti said. “The furthest thing in our minds was being bakers. We always thought we’d be on the front end of the business, not the back end of the business.”
The Magotis now absolutely love what they do, baking from scratch every day. They say getting the chance to brighten up someone’s day with anniversary cupcakes, a birthday cake, or a graduation dessert means everything to them. Every tasty treat in Sweet Timez Bakery is worth a try. The Magotis said one of the best sellers is their banana pudding creations. They sell delectable cupcakes, mouth-watering brownies, and divine sweet potato pies. The owners said while flour and sugar might be at the heart of their creations, connectivity serves as the lifeline of their business.
“Connectivity, the technology and general grants we got from Comcast helped us literally to stay open,” Adria Magoti said. “Once we got new computers installed, iPads … it helped us to manage our inventory better.”
Sweet Timez Bakery is a Comcast Business customer and one of nearly 800 Comcast RISE recipients in Texas.
