Comcast donates $10k to Emancipation Park Conservancy at Women in Tech Event

Walker’s Legacy, a leading women’s empowerment organization, recently hosted a power panel of women at their Women of Color in Tech event on May 20. In partnership with Comcast, the event was held at Emancipation Park Conservancy, the oldest park in Houston and Texas.

This event brought women and men of all backgrounds together to discuss barriers and solutions that women, and specifically women of color, may have entering the technology industry. The room was full of great conversations to help develop, sustain and grow the future of women in technology.

Panelists included City of Houston First Daughter, Ashley Turner; Comcast Houston Director, Nikia Green; Laura Silva, Bank of America; Michelle Ferrell, Code Park Houston; and Madame Miso Shar’nee Francis, of the thesite.io. The moderators for the evening were Joy Hutton and Natalie Madeira Cofield of Walker’s Legacy.

The night ended with a surprise check presentation to Emancipation Park Conservancy by Ray Purser, Comcast Houston Regional VP of External Affairs. The $10k donation was part of Comcasts commitment to the City of Houston’s Complete Communities initiative. Lucy Bremond, Executive Director of Emancipation Park Conservancy was overjoyed with the donation, and the impact it will have on the kids attending the park.
