Harris County DA Takes Aim at Communication Line Vandalism in New PSA

What happens when a crime cuts off families from emergency services, disrupts businesses, and halts work-from-home jobs? It gets serious attention from law enforcement—and now, it’s squarely in the crosshairs of Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare.
In a new Public Service Announcement (PSA), Teare addresses the rampant issue of communication line vandalism and theft, promising to hold those responsible fully accountable under the law. Watch the new PSA here:
According to a KPRC-2 Investigation, telecommunication line vandalism is on the rise and driven by the rising price of copper. According to the Houston Police Department, the city has experienced a 17% spike in cases of cable lines being cut by thieves over the past year. Each incident causes ripple effects, interrupting essential services like 911 access, remote work, and even filling prescriptions.
Harris County’s new District Attorney said he is putting criminals on notice.
“My message for anyone cutting Internet lines is it is not going to be tolerated here,” Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare said. “We work inside our office with our task force and collaboratively with all 86 police agencies in this area. We will find you and we will put you in prison.”
The PSA also serves as a call to action, raising awareness about the broader impacts of cable theft and encouraging the public to report suspicious activity. As Harris County takes a firm stance on this issue, local authorities are urging residents to stay vigilant and protect their community’s connectivity.
Remember, if you see something, say something by calling 911.
