New Poll: Texans Want More Digital Skills Training
A new poll conducted by the National Skills Coalition, NSC, reveals that an overwhelming majority of Texas voters—eight in 10—support increased funding for skills training programs, many of which require a person to have basic digital skills.
“Skills training is an urgent issue that all voters across Texas can agree on,” Robert Espinoza, CEO of NSC said. “People want good jobs that allow them to obtain financial security and thrive in their lives.”
The poll reveals strong bipartisan support: 91% of Democrats, 81% of Independents, and 77% of Republicans favor increased state funding for skills training. Additionally, 63% of voters see the lack of access to skills training as a major challenge.

Research shows that skills training programs designed with employer input help workers secure higher wages and benefits. Voters also support financial assistance for public transportation for adults in skills training programs (78%) and increased funding for job retention programs (77%).
“Voters in Texas are sending a clear message to policymakers: create more opportunities for workers to access skills training,” said Ashley R. Harris, Director of Public Policy and Advocacy at United Ways of Texas.
Nearly all Texas voters (97%) agree that access to skills training is essential for a good job. Over two-thirds (70%) are ready to engage in skills training if offered, especially voters under 50 without a college degree (85%).
As technology evolves, most jobs in Texas now require digital skills. Voters are concerned about adapting to these changes, with 37% having encountered AI on the job and 53% believing that learning to work with AI will be important for their future employment.
