Grammy Winner Teams Up with Tech Leader to Help ‘Uplift’ Texas Families
Talk about an uplifting day! Comcast Texas and TV One hosted an impactful, family-friendly community resource day at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Houston, Mission Bend Club. Uplift Texas supported Comcast’s mission to bridge the digital divide and connect families to the internet.
Uplift Texas featured local leaders, speakers, celebrities, food trucks, face painting and a laptop giveaway. Special guest LeToya Luckett, a Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and actress, participated in an intimate fireside chat moderated by KPRC 2 anchor Candace Burns. Luckett, a mother of two, emphasized the importance of internet connectivity for all families.
Jose Espinel, Comcast Texas Regional Senior Vice President, highlighted Comcast’s mission to bridge the digital divide. He emphasized the importance of partnerships in achieving digital equity and celebrated Comcast RISE recipients, small businesses receiving grant packages to help their communities thrive.
Digital Equity Awards were presented to community partners who have significantly contributed to bridging the digital divide. Khalil Vinson, Tech Fest Live Founder & CEO, accepted the Uplift Texas Breakthrough in Digital Equity Award.
“The Uplift Texas event was a powerful reminder of the impact we can make when we come together for a united cause. Being recognized alongside other community organizations is both an honor and a motivation to continue pushing for greater digital equity in Texas,” Vinson said.
Lift Fund, Goodwill Industries of Houston, and Boys & Girls Club of Greater Houston were also recognized with awards for their impactful work in the community.
Taj the DJ and Keisha Nicole from 97.9 The Box kept the energy high throughout the day. Families in attendance were surprised with a laptop giveaway, ensuring they are able to connect to the digital world.
