Comcast NBCUniversal recently awarded more than $62,000 to six Houston-area chambers, in support of local COVID relief efforts. These funds will help provide immediate resources to these chambers to help present viable opportunities to business leaders and aid in long-term economic recovery efforts.

“We are proud to support small-businesses in the Houston-area and we’re especially proud to contribute to Houston’s recovery efforts through the incredible work of these chambers, said Cyndy Garza Roberts, director of community impact, Houston Region. “It is our hope these funds will help fuel the success of small businesses.”

Comcast RISE, is an initiative created to help strengthen and empower small businesses hard hit by COVID-19. The Comcast RISE program is designed to help thousands of small businesses over the next three years. The multi-faceted program will offer grants, marketing and technology upgrades, including media campaigns and connectivity, computer and voice equipment, as well as free marketing insights to all applicants.

“This grant gives us a tremendous opportunity to dramatically increase our outreach to LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs across the region, shared Tammi Wallace, President & CEO, Greater Houston LGBTQ Chamber Foundation. “As we lift LGBTQ+ businesses through collaboration with Comcast, we can change lives, build a stronger LGBTQ+ business community and ensure that these businesses are recognized for who they are and their talent, product or service they offer.”

“Kudos to Comcast in being leaders in the economic equity space with the creation of the RISE program,” said Carol Guess, President of the Greater Houston Black Chamber of Commerce. “We are very excited to have received funding through this initiative, as it will help us to grow and sustain black businesses through our “Supporting Our Success” (SOS) program.  SOS’s primary goal is to train businesses in executive leadership, best practices in operations and customer service, hiring, and other important topics that can help businesses grow.”

Comcast RISE is part of a larger $100 million Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiative that Comcast launched this summer. In June, Comcast NBCUniversal announced the development of a comprehensive, multiyear plan to allocate $75 million in cash and $25 million in media over the next three years to fight injustice and inequality against any race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation or ability.
