Comcast and the Houston Texans recently joined forces, for the second year to bring a fun and interactive Digital Literacy workshop to families of the Holthouse Boys & Girls Club. This event, which is designed to educate families on the importance and affordability of the internet, demonstrates Comcast’s commitment to empowering and enriching communities with technology.

Upon entering the auditorium, families were greeted by friendly faces and Toro the Houston Texans Mascot. You could see the anticipation on the kids’ faces, as they saw all the activities awaiting them.

The excitement in the room bubbled, when Joe Webb, Quarterback for the Houston Texans made a special appearance. Webb spoke about the importance of digital literacy, education and the skills he learned while in school. “Everyone has to have the internet to be able to achieve great things, such as in college and high school” Webb said.

Comcast’s Director of Government Affairs in Houston, Melinda Little shared the importance of digital inclusion, and provided information about the Internet Essentials program, Comcast’s low-cost, high speed internet program. A $5,000 donation was presented to the Boys’s & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston from Comcast to help further their mission. “Boys and Girls Clubs does so much to help at-risk kids in our community, that’s why we thought this was a prefect event to do with them” said Little.

Cheers and clapping filled the auditorium when the Houston Texans announced all families in attendance would receive tickets to a pre-season game. That is a true #TechnologyTouchdown!
