Celebrating Veteran’s Month; Fit for a General
Our military teammates make a meaningful difference to our business and our customers. Ken Collier and Tom Baker, from the Houston Region, are just two examples of what finding a career following military service can mean. You can watch their story here. Ken and Tom bring the values and skills they honed while in the military to our workforce and exemplify the teamwork it takes to get the job done.
Carol Eggert, Brigadier General (Ret.) and Senior Vice President, Military and Veteran Affairs for Comcast NBCUniversal was in Houston to celebrate our commitment to connecting with, and strengthening our partnership with the Veteran community.
The Houston West Chamber of Commerce also recognized Carol with a Heart of Service award at their annual Salute to Veterans Event, which is a heartfelt tribute to honor the valiant men and women who so bravely serve or have served our Country.
We also announced our partnership with Lone Star Veterans Association to officially open the first-ever computer lab for the veteran community in Houston. Twenty new computers and video conferencing equipment will now help expand the reach and access of veteran organizations to educational resources and in conducting professional development training.
Earlier this year, we announced that our Internet Essentials program expanded eligibility to low-income veterans, nearly one million of whom live within the Comcast’s service area. The goal is to connect more low-income veterans to Internet resources, including: online social support networks, health benefits, access to colleges and scholarship programs, digital and technical skills training programs, as well as news, games, and entertainment.
At Comcast NBCUniversal, we believe Service Matters. No matter where you are in your military journey, we’re here to support you and your family at every turn and through every transition. It’s a principle we aim to live every day, one that’s rooted in the very foundation of our organization—our founder, Ralph Roberts, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
