Comcast Celebrates Digital Inclusion Week with Cybersecurity and Mobile Safety Trainings Across Houston

In honor of National Digital Inclusion Week (October 6–10), Comcast employees are hosting free mobile safety trainings for families and small businesses across the Houston area.

On October 8, Xfinity retail sales consultants visited the JD Walker Community Center in Baytown to teach families how to protect themselves from scams, cyberbullying, and other online threats. Thank you to Justin, Fatima, Charly, Joel, and Akeem for sharing their expertise with the community members.

Throughout October, additional trainings will be held at community centers that are also Lift Zone locations powered by Comcast Business network. Topics include scam awareness, password safety, social media risks, and mobile best practices. Attendees will also learn about Xfinity Mobile features like Call Guard, which helps block spam calls.

United Way of Galveston Lunch and Learn

On October 9, the United Way of Galveston hosted a Lunch and Learn event at the McGuire Dent Community Center Lift Zone. Xfinity technology operations partners discussed Comcast technology – highlighting the Wi-Fi van and other innovative technologies like Storm Ready Wi-Fi. We also had a powerful conversation to better understand the needs of the island when it comes to digital opportunities – connectivity and access – and how our initiatives can be a solution. Comcast announced a $10,000 investment to UWG to launch the digital opportunity fund that the nonprofit community will be able to leverage to further their digital programming.

Tejano Tech Summit Week 2025

Comcast was also proud to be a Community Sponsor for the 4th annual Tejano Tech Summit Week 2025 in Houston. The week coincides with Digital Inclusion Week and will include keynote speeches, partner panels, networking opportunities, and insight at The Ion District – a premiere innovation destination in Houston. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Houston

During Digital Inclusion Week, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Houston is announcing a $25,000 grant from Comcast to launch Digital Tech Connect – Cybersecurity Mentorship for Bigs and Littles in Fort Bend County. This innovative program brings together mentorship and technology to help youth learn how to stay safe, smart, and confident online. For eight weeks, volunteer mentors, known as “Bigs,” will be paired with younger mentees, known as “Littles,” in a hybrid mix of on-campus and virtual sessions. Together they will dive into hands-on activities around password protection, phishing scams, social media privacy, and creating positive digital footprints. The program will also feature special events such as a Crime Stoppers guest presentation and a capstone project where youth design their own digital safety campaign to share with their peers. The grant is part of Project UP, Comcast’s $1 billion initiative to connect people to the internet, provide digital opportunity, and advance economic mobility across communities.

The Village Centers

A $25,000 grant from Comcast will help The Village Centers in Kingwood upgrade its adaptive computer lab that is used by adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The grant was presented to the nonprofit on September 9 by Team UP volunteers with Comcast Texas – Houston’s largest internet service provider. In addition to the lab upgrades, the grant will help train adults with IDD how to avoid being the target of cybercriminals.

New Charging Stations Launched

Comcast is also installing Xfinity-branded mobile charging stations at Lift Zone locations across greater Houston and surrounding areas – including locations in Galveston, Baytown, Houston, and Conroe. These stations will be available during regular hours and serve as vital resources during emergencies like hurricanes.
